<image:caption>We are all surrounded by ancient foods and medicines, whether we’re out in the bush or in an urban alleyway. Let’s relearn this ancient knowledge and rebuild our reciprocal relationship with the earth. I offer to share knowledge with you about some native and non-native plants in your area and how they can help you in everyday life. I can share with you some great remedies for common ailments, all from the land we are a part of. Many of the plants that we call ‘weeds’ are the beloved edible and medicinal plants of the British Isles, Western and Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean, brought over by colonists to populate their gardens in Australia. Eating these ‘weeds’ is one of the best ways we can reduce their ecological impact on native bushland. I can show you how to do so safely. I can also share with you information about the vast array of bush foods which the Indigenous custodians of the land thrived off for tens of thousands of years. Everywhere you go the earth is offering it’s treasures, and I can help to open your eyes so you can appreciate the abundance around you.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Finding Water - Finding Water</image:title>
<image:caption>As we all know, water is life! Adequate hydration is vital for health in daily life and survival in extreme situations, and this workshop will investigate a range of different techniques to procure water for safe hydration. I can teach you how to read the land in ways that will increase the likelihood of finding water, as well as locating water stores within plants. I can show you how to tell if water is safe, how to make it safer, and how to reduce the impact tainted water can have on the body. These are skills that all of our ancestors were masters of - otherwise we wouldn’t be here now! Relearning this skills can help you in difficult situations, and most importantly will reconnect you with your innate ability to deeply see, hear, and understand the landscape around you. Drinkable water is something that we take for granted as as a boring substance that shoots out of a tap. But water is a living part of every landscape in the world. Can you reconnect with all the many different scents and tastes of good water, and the good it can do for your body?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Making & Maintaining Fire - Making & Maintaining Fire</image:title>
<image:caption>Would you like to be able to whip out a blazing fire in a range of locations and conditions? I can share with you the ancient art of building, creating and maintaining a fire. I can show you how to make fire from range of materials, from the most primitive to modern to accommodate for a range of skill levels - flint and steel, spindle + base plate (friction with sticks), magnifying glass, matches, and lighter. I can also show you how to maintain fire over days, transport it across locations, and work with weather issues. Making fire is the only skill (that we know of) which is unique to humans. It defines us as a species and deep down we all know it. Nothing can give comfort, aid contemplation, or bring people together like a fire. You can revive the artform of your ancestors and reconnect with your ancient past by learning these inspiring skills.</image:caption>

We are all descendants of these peoples from around the world as they were the first survivors. That knowledge has been passed down for tens of thousands of years but recent generations have been separated from it. So connecting with this knowledge is really “re-learning”. One of my goals is to continue the lineage of these traditions. This knowledge is being shared with you in the hope that you can in turn carry on this legacy of learning. These are practical skills which can be incorporated into your daily life. You’ll be amazed at how familiar these skills feel - your body and mind have been waiting to practice these ancient arts!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Foraging - Foraging</image:title>
<image:caption>Foraging is a regenerative way of life. The plant-based proteins, fats and the necessary vitamins and minerals we need to live well are all around us! By learning how to forage you can reduce your food shopping bill, reduce your reliance on supermarkets, and improve your ability to live from the land that we all came from. Foraging skills were all common knowledge up until even our grandparents generation. We can reconnect with the ancient knowledge that sustained our ancestors, and by doing so, help to restore balance to the earth. Foraging is such a natural human skill that once you’ve started, you won’t stop. Once you’ve fostered this skill the world will surprise and delight you with its gifts for the rest of your life. The plants popping out of the sidewalk can offer you the necessary vitamins, fats, and proteins that you need to maintain overall health. Knowing them can also cover your vital needs in a survival situation. All this information would have been common knowledge to our ancestors for thousands of years. I can teach you about both native and introduced plants which all have ancient connections to the people who came before us, and which kept them thriving for countless generations. Let’s start repairing our relationship with the earth and with our human past, beginning with these practical, earthy skills.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I can teach you how to make ropes and cord from materials you’ll find in the bush, and then the weaving techniques to build a tepee structure, and smokehouse for preserving food. I can show you how to make fishing line, set certain traps, as well as make camouflage. Let’s all try to get plastic out of our lives by learning how to use these natural, biodegradable materials instead! These are skills which are vital in survival situations, and are also fun to practice and play with to make cubby houses and more. And most importantly, they’re reconnecting us to the ancient arts of our ancestors. Working with natural materials helps to rebuild our reciprocal, healing relationship with the earth that sustains us all. I can show you how to make lean-toos, teepees, debris shelters, and how to get comfy in holes and overhangs in the natural environment. I can also teach you string-making for binding, and how to repel water from your shelters. Shelter building is one of the most important of all survival skills and a well-made shelter can keep you safe, dry, and warm in almost any weather. It’s also a fun way to play in nature - create cubby houses and hideyholes out in the bush or in your own backyard. Creating a structure from natural materials is a sacred act of transforming nature’s gifts. It’s a skill that everyone’s ancestors had mastered. We can reconnect this lineage today by learning these ancient arts.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Would you like to learn how to process your own bought, or hunted, meats? Come and learn a thorough and respectful way of processing an entire animal body. I have over a decade of experience in processing animal bodies. I can show you how to most effectively take apart almost any four-legged animal, bird, or fish, and show you how best to use each part with a zero-waste approach. I can also share ideas around storing and preserving certain parts for future food. How much of an animal do we usually throw away? I can help you reduce your weekly shopping bill, and impact on the earth, through waste minimisation. Processing animal bodies is an ancient artform practiced by all cultures around the world for countless generations. Reconnecting with the life/death cycles in a mindful, respectful way is a powerful way of reviving our ancestral lineages, and our connection to the earth. Learning how to process the bodies of introduced animals that we have hunted is also one of the most practical ways that we can both reduce our participation in industrial agriculture, as well as reducing the strain that those invasive species can put on the environment.</image:caption>

There are edible bugs and insects around us everyday. I can show you how to use them for food in a survival situation, as well as how to replace our regular reliance on meat with more sustainable sources. I can show you how to harvest responsibly, cook properly, what to avoid, as well as some resources to get you started on your critter munching journey. As a society we’ve been conditioned to see only a tiny selection of foods as acceptable to eat. But a part of liberating ourselves from the industrial food system is relearning the ancient practices that sustained our ancestors. I can share techniques that I have used to become ‘unlost’ as well as tracking skills I’ve learned and developed to find animals and water. Anyone who spends time in the bush should have the vital skills to figure out where they are and where they’re going. I can teach you about low/high ground and how to keep an eye on weather. Other important skills are making the call at the point where shelter takes precedent over backtracking, and learning how to I.D. animal tracks, locate water and food, as well as choosing potential trap sites for hunting. These are skills which are vital in survival situations, but can also enhance your leisure time in bushwalks and other nature excursions.
